UNITED ONCE AGAIN

The SME General Assembly 2017 was held last November 27 with a theme, “Ignite: Burning as One” at BulSU Valencia Hall with a safari themed concept. It was participated by all the students of Manufacturing Engineering, which are all divided into five animal groups namely, Troops of Kangaroos, Aerie of Eagles, Zeal of Zebras, Sault of Lions and the Pack of Wolves. The said event started by an invocation and the singing of the National Anthem given by the MfE Chorale led by Ms. Roma Renzie Maglente. It was followed by the opening remarks of the SME BulSU adviser, Engr. Rachel D. Cunanan.

The event was properly commenced by the lighting of the torch, participated by the leaders of each group; Mr. King Alfred Zapata for the Troops of Kangaroos, Mr. Adams Aguilera for the Aerie of Eagles, Mr. Romer Surio for the Zeal of Zebras, Mr. Edward Jann Libiran for the Sault of Lions and Mr. Neal Acuna for the Pack of Wolves. The Manufacturing Engineering students enjoyed the Camaraderie Games, as well as the Audio Visual Presentations for the MfE Faculty and the SME BulSu officers S.Y. 2017- 2018. The MfE Dance Group and a special duet number by Ynna Marie Alto and Jerico Bernardo, from the MfE Chorale, all showcased their talent during the Intermission Numbers in between the program.

The groups exerted so much efforts in the contests – Best Banner Making, Best Chant, Best Appearance/Costume and the Best Mascot. There is also the highlight of the event, which is the Roaring Race, wherein all groups were needed to unite as one to get the goal of winning. It was a live indication of the group’s unity and oneness, thus, giving it a much higher points than the general pointing scores.

The general pointing system that was observed for all the games and contests were 50 points for the Champion, 30 points for the 1st Placer and 20 points for the 2nd Placer. There were also raffle draws brought by the generous sponsors of the event, the HJ’s Shoppe and the Doughy Delights. The fight was tough for all the groups. Everyone deserved to win but as the rule implies, there must be one winner. And due to many circumstances that is unavoidable to any event, there had two sets of winners giving all the groups the chance to compensate the efforts exerted to all the contests.

The Troops of Kangaroos was declared as the SME Best Group Champion, the Zeal of Zebras for the 1st Place, the Pack of Wolves for the 2nd Place, and the Aerie of Eagles and Sault of Lions for the 3rd and 4th Place repectively.
